THE LEAST IS THE GREATEST

Hi guys:-) So, I have been thinking about this post for quite some time. The Holy Spirit has strongly deposited this in my heart and has taught me, helped me and walked with me in regard to servant-hood over time. So this is not just me, Miss Joanne writing, this is the Holy Spirit speaking.

We all wanna be great, great in a million different ways; have a successful family, have a successful career and maybe excel in your education. All this is good, in fact, it’s excellent coz guess what, that’s what God wants for us. For every good and every perfect gift is from above. James 1:17. But what’s Jesus referring to when He says “but not so among you; on the contrary he who is greatest among you, let him be as the younger, and he who governs as he who serves. For who is greater, he who sits at the table or he who serves? Is it not he who sits at the table yet I am among you as the one who serves?” Luke 22:26-27. First things first, Jesus is the King of kings, He is the son of God hence He owns the entire universe. He who owns the entire universe is without a doubt the greatest. So, Jesus is the greatest!

Why then would he model a perfect image of servant-hood to us? Coz everything He did on earth we’re to live out, in fact do greater works than he did. As He is then so are we in this world. Jesus had to show us this critical aspect for us to imitate him, do as he did. Sometimes you may be in a position of service where you feel like no one really recognizes and appreciates you, sometimes the responsibilities are overwhelming and you just wanna SCCCCREEEAMMMM!!!! It can get crazy, I know. A perfect example of this is a mother with young kids. Sometimes even a position in church or in the office. Everyone seems to be stepping on your toes, the work load is just too much to handle or the position just doesn’t sound that good/flourishing. Well, greatness is not determined by the job title or the amount of appreciation received but by YOUR ATTITUDE. The one who serves gladly, the least of them all, that’s the greatest.

It’s about time we embrace our current position with a positive attitude and diligence coz everything good we do wholeheartedly is a form of worship to our maker, it’s communion with the Holy Spirit! Think about that. Every time we complain, we’re robbing ourselves of communion with God. Ain’t no better place to be than in God’s presence; this is not just thunder, a pillar of cloud or fire but in our every day roles performed with diligence. Colossians 2:23-24″ And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.”

I remember back in High School singing these words in my school anthem: ‘I will do the ordinary extra-ordinarily well.’ I probably didn’t think about it much back then, but it makes sense guys! This is the spirit of true servant-hood. Giving it your all even when exposed to other people’s weakness. I heard this a few days ago “in a situation whereby you get to familiarize a lot with others, don’t expose their weakness(even when tempted to do so), let their weakness expose your strength.” You gotta have the extra element, ALWAYS. This shouldn’t be hard coz we have the Holy Spirit living in us who is our helper. This is not to say that sometimes we don’t think of doing the exact opposite, we do, well at least I do. I have had to constantly speak(verbally, not in my thoughts) to myself, declaring God’s word over diligence and servant-hood to myself to get rid of the negative thoughts the enemy tries to put in my mind. If you are born again, the devil can’t get to you except through your thoughts (or certain exceptions we won’t discuss here). And the only way to counter a negative thought is to speak the word of God!

So let’s do this guys! Let’s have a true servant’s mentality. We’re His servants anyway, and that’s the highest calling. We have to serve in order to be served. We gotta do the ordinary extra ordinarily well in order to do the extra-ordinary! Let’s do this, let’s serve with all we are in our different capacities. Serving exercises humility. Remember, humble yourself in the sight of the Lord and He will exalt you; James 4:10. The opposite is true, service that’s not wholly dedicated is a form of pride, and God rejects the proud. Think about it, if God rejects you, where do you go?Where do you even start? Let’s be careful, pride may be dressed in outfits that look like comfort zones, let’s not miss them. Of all sins, pride is the most lethal. It guards and protects all other vices. Pride is the armor of hell-Frangipane.

We’ve gotta be all in. Love like never before, serve like never before (especially when it’s difficult), work like never before. The least is the greatest. This is a challenge for me too, but I’m ready to be the least that He may be glorified. Therefore my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, for as much as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord; 1 Corinthians 15:58.
